Lǔ Xùn 魯迅 has his main character say:
我翻开历史一查,这历史没有年代,歪歪斜斜的每页上都写着「仁义道德」几个字。我横竖睡不着,仔细看了半夜,才从字缝里看出字来,满本都写着两个字是“吃人”!
I flipped open a history book and looked through it. The era of the history was unspecified, but the words "goodness and virtue" were scrawled across every page. I simply couldn't get to sleep, and after reading it closely for most of the night I was finally able to make out characters written invisibly in the spaces between other characters — the whole book said nothing but "oppress and cheat people"! (lit. "eat people")
